Situated approximately 1.5 kilometers from the commercial district of the highly urbanized City of Lapu-Lapu, Lo-ok National High School had its initial operation in SY 1981- 1982 as a Barangay High School in the West District.

Its first- and second-year classes were held at the Multi-Purpose Hall of Lo-oc Barangay Council. The school was situated in the heart of the neighborhood where the noise of the radio music and drama programs can be heard which ultimately distracted the concentration and attention of the students to their lessons. Classes were held in substandard rooms where the voices of the students and the teachers can be heard in the adjacent rooms. During class hours, the shouting of neighbors where quarreling and the crying of the hogs tied on the decorative hollow blocks of the building were not unusual experiences including the sometimes hostile and superficial treatment of the neighbors.

The painful and heartbreaking experiences challenged the school to move forward and find its own home in the quiet place which we now call the new Lo-ok National High School. Through a PTCA Resolution which was approved by DECS, Lo-oc Barangay High School was changed to Lo-ok Barangay High School. Lo-oc is a negative Visayan term which means to choke the neck while Lo-ok means to look forward.

In 1995, after so many attempts to donate the lot for the school site, the Naval Forces Central of the Philippines (NAVFORCEN) of the Philippine Navy donated two-(2) hectare lot from its 65.67 hectares foreshore land - Mactan Naval Reservation. In July 1995, the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed by the Naval Officer, Commodore Danio E. Pizarro, and DECS Regional Director, Dr. Eladio C. Dioko. The PTCA President, Mrs. Ma. Purisima C. Nadala; LNHS Principal (1983-2004), Mrs. Florentina T. Villamor; Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Caridad C. Labe; Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ernest H. Weigel, Jr. and Senator Raul Roco played very important and significant roles in the school site acquisition.

In SY 1996-1997, the new Lo-ok NHS with only 4 classrooms started in the NAVFORCEN perimeter. The succeeding years witnessed an influx of the student population. From more than 100 students with 4 teachers during its initial year, LNHS has now almost 600 students. Presently, there are 13 sections with 22 teachers and 1 school administrator.
